The tool covers living and nonliving things, what living things need, the five senses, and weather and seasons for kindergarten. It also has plants, life cycles, the water cycle, states of matter and the solar system. Because the picture activities suit young children, the sheets work as preschool science worksheets and pre k science worksheets too. You can save any sheet as a PDF or send it straight to print.

How to make a kindergarten science worksheet

  1. Open the Topic menu and choose a topic, such as Living things or Five senses.
  2. Open the Worksheet menu and pick a sheet within that topic. It opens with two or three activities already ticked.
  3. Tick or untick activities on the left. For kindergarten, the circle, match with lines, cut and glue, and label with a word bank activities work best.
  4. Set Items per activity to 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12.
  5. Turn Word bank on for an easier sheet, or off for a harder one.
  6. Turn Color pictures on for soft colors, or off for black line art that children can color and that saves ink.
  7. Add a Name and date line, edit the Worksheet title, and choose US Letter or A4 paper.
  8. Tick Answer key pages if you need the answers.
  9. Click New version to shuffle the word bank, matching letters and order.
  10. Click Download PDF to save a file, Print to open the print dialog, or Copy link to save a link that reopens the same worksheet.

Download PDF builds a vector file that stays sharp and prints at true size. Print sends only the worksheet pages to your printer. The link from Copy link keeps your chosen version, so you can share the exact sheet with a class or student.

What is the difference between living and nonliving things?

Living things grow and change, and they need food, water and air. Nonliving things do not grow, eat or drink. A dog and a tree are living, while a rock and a ball are nonliving.

To sort something, ask three questions: Does it grow? Does it need food, water or air? Does it change over time? If the answer is yes, it is living. A car can move, but it does not grow, eat or drink, so it is nonliving. Children often mistake moving things for living things, so this test helps.

The living things sheets use this idea. One activity asks children to circle the living things among eight pictures. Another asks them to cut out picture cards and glue them into a Living or Nonliving column, using pictures such as a cup, a book, a shoe and a pencil. A third sheet, What living things need, asks children to sort food, water, air and shelter into “Living things need” and TV, a video game, a ball and a car into “Living things do not need.”

What are the five senses?

The five senses are sight (eyes), hearing (ears), smell (nose), taste (tongue) and touch (skin, such as the hands). Each sense gives the brain information about the world around us.

Each sense matches a clear kind of object. Eyes see a rainbow, ears hear a bell or a drum, the nose smells a flower or soap, the tongue tastes a lemon or ice cream, and the hands feel a teddy bear or a cactus. The “Match the sense” activity uses this idea. Children draw a line from each picture to See, Hear, Smell, Taste or Touch, and the answer key draws the lines for you.

A labeling activity works alongside it. Children write Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue and Hands on a child picture, with a word bank if you want support. Short labels like these suit kindergarten readers.
