Biology Worksheets

Choose a topic and a sheet: label diagrams, sort, match vocabulary or solve generated Punnett squares, with an answer key if you want one.

These free biology worksheets are made by the generator above in a few clicks: it runs in your web browser, with no sign-up, and nothing you create is uploaded or sent to a server.

Choose a topic such as Cells, Plants, Genetics, Human body, Animal classification, Food chains or Life cycles, then pick a sheet. You can tick activities like labeling diagrams, fill-in-the-blanks, vocabulary matching and short answer questions, and the printable pages update as you change them. Download a biology worksheets PDF, print the pages directly, or add an answer key for a biology worksheets with answers PDF. Topics include a biology photosynthesis worksheet, a biology classification worksheet, a biology vocabulary worksheet and human biology worksheets on organs, body systems and the skeleton.

How to make a biology worksheet

  1. Open the Topic menu and choose a topic, for example Plants.
  2. Open the Worksheet menu and pick a sheet within that topic. It opens with 2 or 3 activities already ticked.
  3. Tick or untick activities on the left. The pages on the right update live.
  4. Set Items per activity to 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12.
  5. Turn the Word bank on or off. Off makes the sheet harder.
  6. Turn Answer key pages on if you want the answers included.
  7. Turn Color pictures off to print black line art that saves ink and that children can color.
  8. Add a Name and date line and edit the Worksheet title.
  9. Choose Paper size: US Letter or A4.
  10. Click New version to shuffle the word bank, matching letters and order for a fresh set.
  11. Click Download PDF, Print or Copy link.

On the Punnett squares sheet, Items per activity sets how many crosses are made, and New version picks new traits and parents. The activities flow onto as few pages as possible. Answers in the key appear in blue. Copy link saves a link that reopens the same worksheet, including the version you chose.

Tip: for a quick vocabulary quiz, tick only Vocabulary matching and Fill in the blanks, and turn the word bank off for older students.

How do you fill in a Punnett square?

Write one parent’s two alleles across the top and the other parent’s two alleles down the left side. Each of the four boxes gets one allele from its column and one from its row.

For Rr x Rr, the top is R and r, and the side is R and r. The boxes read RR, Rr, Rr and rr. The genotype ratio is 1 RR : 2 Rr : 1 rr. Because R (round seeds) is dominant over r (wrinkled), the phenotype ratio is 3 round : 1 wrinkled, so 75% of the offspring are round.

For Tt x tt, the boxes read Tt, Tt, tt and tt. The genotype ratio is 2 Tt : 2 tt. Because T (tall) is dominant, 50% of the offspring are tall.

What is photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the process plants use to make their own food from light energy. Chlorophyll in the chloroplasts of leaf cells captures the light, and the plant turns carbon dioxide and water into glucose, a sugar, and oxygen.

The word equation is: carbon dioxide + water -> glucose + oxygen (with light energy). Carbon dioxide enters the leaf through tiny pores called stomata, and water comes up from the roots.

What are the body systems?

The body systems are groups of organs that work together to do one job. Each system has its own main organs:

  • Circulatory moves blood (heart, blood vessels).
  • Respiratory brings in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide (lungs, trachea).
  • Digestive breaks food down (stomach, intestines).
  • Nervous carries messages (brain, spinal cord, nerves).
  • Skeletal supports and protects the body (bones).
  • Muscular moves the body (muscles).

What are the male and female parts of a flower?

The stamen is the male part: a thin filament holds up the anther, which makes pollen. The pistil is the female part: the sticky stigma catches pollen, the style is the tube below it, and the ovary at the base holds the ovules. After fertilization the ovules become seeds and the ovary grows into a fruit. The Parts of a flower sheet asks students to label all ten of these parts.

Frequently asked questions

Do the worksheets have answer keys?

Yes. Turn on Answer key pages to add pages with the answers filled in, shown in blue. For generated sheets such as Punnett squares, the tool calculates the key for every new set of problems.

Which grades are the worksheets for?

Parts of a plant, organs, life cycles and animal groups suit grades 2–5. Photosynthesis, flower parts, cells, body systems, the skeleton and food webs suit grades 4–8. Punnett squares and heredity vocabulary suit grades 7–10.

Can I download biology worksheets as a PDF?

Yes. Download PDF builds a vector PDF file in the browser that prints sharp at true size. Print opens the print dialog with only the worksheet pages.

Can each student get a different version?

Yes. Click New version to shuffle the word bank, matching letters and order. Each class or student can get a different version, and the version is kept in the link.

Do I need an account to use the tool?

No. The tool is free, needs no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.

Which pea plant traits do the Punnett squares use?

Mendel’s single-gene pea traits: seed shape (round or wrinkled), seed color (yellow or green), flower color (purple or white), pod color (green or yellow) and plant height (tall or short). Each problem names the dominant and the recessive allele.
